Designed to allow diesel engines to work longer and harder, PC-11 oils are expected to provide better protection and fuel economy compared to API CJ-4 oils currently used in heavy-duty diesel engines.
PC-11 was developed with three primary considerations:
- Enhanced fuel economy with engines designed to run with lower viscosity fluid
- Oxidation stability
- Shear stability
As the 11th evolution of its kind, PC-11 is a necessary improvement, providing better protection for current engines, while making advancements in engine technology possible.
Two Formulations
Prior to PC-11, nearly every new category has been backwards compatible. PC-11, however, will be divided into two subcategories to offer both backwards compatibility to current engines, as well as advanced chemistry for engines manufactured in the future.
PC-11A: Licensed as API CK-4
Offering upgraded protection for all new and older heavy-duty diesel engines.
- Backwards compatible in applications calling for API CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS, CI-4 and CH-4
- Traditional high-temperature, high-shear viscosity
- Improved oxidation, shear stability and aeration performance
PC-11B: Licensed as API FA-4
Formulated for use in the next generation of more fuel-efficient on-highway diesel engines.
- Reduced high-temperature, high-shear viscosity
- Improved fuel economy in engines designed to operate with lower HTHS
- Improved oxidation, shear stability and aeration performance
- May be backwards compatible with some current engine models
